How do oral & maxillofacial surgeons differ from other dental and medical specialists?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on surgery of the oral cavity and contiguous facial structures. Training requires years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school.  Dental school is a required component for this surgical specialty due to its emphasis on surgery of the facial complex. A thorough understanding of head and neck anatomy as well as form and function is necessary. Board certification in this specialty is comprised of a comprehensive written and oral examination covering all aspects of oral and facial surgery.

As a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Pasqual manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth and facial regions. Dr. Pasqual practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery for adults and children with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery, trauma surgery and facial aesthetics. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. We also diagnose and treat facial pain and facial injuries including facial fractures.
